This Privacy Policy describes how Baseline – Food Tracker (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application (the “App”).
1. Overview
The App is designed with a privacy-first, local-first approach.
- Most of your data is stored locally on your device
- We collect limited analytics data to improve the App
- We do not sell your personal data
2. Information We Collect
A. Information You Provide
When using the App, you may provide:
- Food logs and dietary entries
- Nutrition tracking data (calories, macros, etc.)
This data is stored locally on your device by default.
- Account information: your email, and your name if you choose to share it when signing in with Apple or Google
- Data synced to cloud storage for cross-device access
B. Usage & Analytics Data
We collect usage data to understand how the App is used and to improve performance and usability. This data is tied to a random, app-generated identifier — never your name or email — so we can see that the same user did something, but not who you are.
This may include events such as:
- App opened
- Food logged
- Barcode scanned
- Daily usage activity (e.g., whether a user logs food on a given day)
- Screens viewed and subscription-related actions (e.g., viewing the upgrade screen, starting a trial)
- Your answers to onboarding questions (e.g., your goal, motivation, and eating style)
We may also collect limited metadata related to these events, such as:
- Method used (e.g., barcode, search, manual entry)
- Time of day
- Feature usage patterns
- App session duration
This data is never linked to your name or email.
C. Device & Technical Information
We may collect basic technical information, including:
- Device type
- Operating system version
- App version
This helps us improve reliability and performance.
D. Food Search & Barcode Data
When you search for food or scan a barcode:
- Requests may be sent to third-party food databases
- Results may be stored locally on your device
We do not control or guarantee the accuracy of third-party data.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use collected data to:
- Provide core functionality (food tracking, logging)
- Improve app performance and user experience
- Understand feature usage and user behavior
- Identify bugs and fix issues
- Personalize insights or recommendations
- Improve onboarding and retention
- Support subscription features
4. Data Storage
- Most user data is stored locally on your device
- Analytics data may be transmitted securely to third-party analytics services
- Some data may be stored in cloud databases for syncing or backup
5. Third-Party Services
We use third-party services to operate the App:
- Food and nutrition databases — FatSecret and Open Food Facts (for search and barcode results)
- Analytics — PostHog (usage data under the pseudonymous identifier described above)
- Authentication — Supabase (signing you in with Apple or Google)
- Payments — Apple's App Store and RevenueCat process subscription purchases. We never see or store your card details, and we do not attach your purchase history to your identity.
These services may collect limited data as described in their own privacy policies.
5a. Apple Health
If you turn on Apple Health sync (optional, off by default), Baseline saves the calories, protein, carbohydrates and fat of meals you log to Apple Health on your device. Baseline does not read any data from Apple Health, and data written to Apple Health is never transmitted to our servers or to any third party. You can turn sync off at any time in the App's Profile tab, and you can revoke Baseline's Health access in your device Settings.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data.
We only share data when necessary to:
- Provide core app functionality
- Improve app performance
- Work with service providers
7. Notifications
If you enable notifications, we may send:
- Daily reminders to log food
- Occasional app-related updates
You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
8. Your Choices
You can:

9. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, but no system is completely secure.
10. Children’s Privacy

We do not knowingly collect data from children.
